Working as lab technicians, veterans process artifacts and archival materials, photograph artifacts, and scan documents.
In photography, technicians are trained to use Canon equipment and software. Artifacts are elevated from the surface to ensure that no scratches or dust appear in the final image and to create a floating, shadowless image in perfect focus.
In processing collections, technicians use Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word to create and manage catalogs and databases, and draft finding aids. Technicians are also trained to use two different types of scanners. One scanner is capable of capturing large format documents and maps, and the other is used for scanning photographs, film negatives, and slides.
