Veterans bring a number of unique skills to the workplace, but there is a genuine need for employment opportunities for returning veterans. The United States Military provides some of the best leadership training and character development in the world, making service men and women returning from active duty invaluable members of the workforce for a number of reasons:
Strong Leadership Potential
Service members are trained to lead by example and with direction, delegation, motivation, and inspiration. Regardless of level of military experience, a service member will have practical experience managing people and behavior to accomplish the objective or mission.
Ability to Work as a Team and Individually
Military duties involve a blend of individual and group responsibilities, stressing teamwork to accomplish the goal or mission. Service members are also required to work with people of all races, genders, religions, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds and are instilled with a sense of responsibility to their colleagues.
High Performance Under Pressure
The most important thing in the military is to complete the objective, often in spite of limited resources and time and under extreme pressure. Service members are trained to work diligently and efficiently and to absorb as much information as necessary to make intuitive decisions in some of the most extreme situations.
Organization and Attention to Detail
In addition to understanding the big picture of a mission or objective, service men and women maintain a strong attention to detail. They are highly organized and efficient workers.
Strong Personal Integrity
The military requires all service members to abide by a strict Code of Ethics that they live every single day. This can be translated into civilian life as a proven track record of trustworthiness and moral character, which is an asset on any team.
