Known as the “Coosa River Scrolls” because of their length when unrolled, these exceptional profiles of the Coosa River were completed in 1915. These pen-and-ink technical drawings on linen paper record the depth of the Coosa River between Rome, Georgia and Gadsden, Alabama. Each scroll is a single document over 100 feet long. Veterans working at the Augusta Veterans Curation Program laboratory unrolled the two extant scrolls and cleaned them with archival-quality tools. The scrolls were then scanned in sections so that the images can later be stitched together to form a single digital image of each scroll.
