Artifacts and documents related to the Long Branch Lake Survey investigation are associated with archaeological fieldwork conducted between 1974 and 1978 in the Chariton River valley in Macon County, Missouri. The St. Louis VCP laboratory received 69 boxes of artifacts and over eight linear feet of documents from the Long Branch Lake Survey. Technicians are currently working to rehabilitate the prehistoric and historical-period artifacts and associated archives that provide information about the 7,000 years of continuous occupation, from the Middle Archaic to Historic periods, within the Long Branch Reservoir. Artifacts representing different material classes are being digitally photographed using forensic photography equipment.
